Netflix’s ‘Extraction’ Already Getting a Sequel

The recently released Netflix action film Extraction, starring Chris Hemsworth, has already been granted a sequel by the streaming service..

Extraction was released on Netflix on April 24, amid the coronavirus and social distancing, so its no wonder the film in on pace to become the streaming giant’s most-watched feature film. It has been projected that 90 million households will have streamed the film over the first four weeks of Extraction’s release. This immense success has prompted Netflix to order a sequel, written by Marvel writer and director Joe Russo.

Russo, along with his brother Anthony, is responsible for both writing and directing the most recent Avengers movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as the last two Captain America films. This marks yet another collaboration between him and Hemsworth, who brought the character of Thor to life.“The deal is closed for me to write Extraction 2, and we are in the formative stages of what the story can be. We’re not committing yet to whether that story goes forward, or backward in time. We left a big loose ending that leaves question marks for the audience,” Russo told Deadline.

While it has not been announced yet, Russo expects that his longtime collaborator Sam Hargrave will continue as director for the sequel.
