Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore, a brash yet affable hockey player turned professional golfer, is back for another round. Netflix released the official teaser trailer for Happy Gilmore 2 on Christmas Day. The teaser confirms Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald will be reprising their roles as Virginia Venit and Shooter McGavin respectively. Superstars Travis Kelce and Bad Bunny make appearances in the teaser as well. The highly anticipated comedy has not yet been rated.
Sandler co-wrote the film with frequent collaborator Tim Herlihy. Herlihy has been involved in many noteworthy Sandler projects including The Waterboy, The Wedding Singer, and Big Daddy. Kyle Newacheck of Workaholics, another past Sandler collaborator, will direct. Dennis Dugan who directed Happy Gilmore serves as an executive producer.
The teaser shows Happy Gilmore (Sandler) in nostalgic moments as he gazes at a Boston Bruins jersey, rides a golf club, and faces off against Shooter McGavin (McDonald). He also shares a kiss with love interest Virginia Venit (Bowen). The original Happy Gilmore came out nearly 30 years ago.
Ben Stiller will reprise his role as the sinister nursing home attendant, Hal. Newcomers Margaret Qualley, Benny Safdie, Nick Swardson, Scott Mescudi (Kid Cudi) and Maxwell Jacob Friedman have been added to the cast. Sandler revealed in an appearance on The Dan Patrick Show that Marshall Mathers (Eminem) has a cameo. Sandler commented, “I’ve known Eminem for a long time, he’s a great guy and he came in and was funny as hell.”
Netflix is set to release Happy Gilmore 2 in July 2025.
