Netflix Offers First Look at Chadwick Boseman’s Last Movie

Earlier this year the world lost a very talented actor when Chadwick Boseman sadly passed away from colon cancer in August. Boseman was of course best known for playing Black Panther in the Marvel cinematic universe, but before his untimely death Boseman filmed the Netflix original movie, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

Netflix has released some images online of the film, and Movie Web reported that the movie has been given an official release date of December 18th. The movie will of course be streaming on Netflix.

Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom is period drama based on a play by the late August Wilson. The story takes place on an afternoon in 1920’s Chicago during a recording session of legendary blues singer, Ma Rainey’s album. Over the course of the recording session tensions rise as the musicians argue amongst each other and Ma Rainey clashes with her producer.

Boseman plays Levee, an ambitious trumpeter who is interested in Ma Rainey’s girlfriend. Ma Rainey herself is played by Viola Davis. Other cast members include Dusan Brown, Jonny Coyne, Colman Domingo, Taylor Paige, Michael Potts, Jeremy Shamos, and Glynn Turman. The movie was directed by Tony winner George C. Wolfe.

While it is heartbreaking to have lost Boseman, it might be nice to see him act one last time.
