Netflix Adds Lashana Lynch to Cast of Movie Remake of the ‘Matilda’ Musical

Author Roald Dahl is well known for writing many children books that are considered to be literary classics. Many of his books have been adapted into beloved movies including James and the Giant Peach, Fantastic Mr Fox, The Witches, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory which was adapted into Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, and of course Matilda.

The story of Matilda was later adapted into a popular musical, which is now getting its own movie adaptation on Netflix. Actor Ralph Fiennes has been confirmed as Miss Trunchbull. Now The Hollywood Reporter has reported that actress Lashana Lynch could be cast in the role of Miss Honey, Matilda’s kind teacher. Lashana Lynch previously appeared in the Captain Marvel movie, and she will also be starring the upcoming James Bond movie No Time to Die.

Much of the team responsible for the stage play are joining together for the film, including director Matthew Warchus, who directed the stage musical. Dennis Kelly, who wrote the play, will also be adapting the screenplay. The musical was received well by critics and fans and debuted at West End and Broadway, so a major film adaptation is the natural next step as musical film adaptations are gaining traction in Hollywood. Netflix recently adapted The Prom with a star-studded cast, Disney + brought Hamilton to a wider audience, and Wicked is in progress at Universal. This is yet another musical film for fans to look forward to.
