Elizabeth Olsen Reveals ‘Doctor Strange 2’ Filming Is On Hold

Like many other films in 2020, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness filming has been temporarily put on hold. According to Screen Rant, star Elizabeth Olsen confirmed that due to the surge in Covid cases in the U.K., the filming is currently delayed. The Marvel production directed by Sam Raimi was first scheduled to be released in May 2021, but now has a current release date of March 2022.

The film connects two other marvel films, WandaVision and Spider-Man: Homecoming 3 and is said to be one of the most important films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. On Jimmy Kimmel Live promoting WandaVision, Olsen revealed that filming was currently on hiatus: “Since the hospitals are overwhelmed here, we can’t go back to work until that calms down. I’m just safely hanging out here, and just really grateful I get to be working. Disney has kept me busy during quarantine!”. Olsen will be reprising her role as Scarlet Witch, along with Benedict Cumberpatch returning with his role as Dr. Stephen Strange. The film has new cast members as well, including Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.

The plot is still under wraps, and it is unknown how long the hiatus on filming will last, but if Covid cases go down in the next few weeks in the U.K., there is a good chance that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will resume filming sooner rather than later.

Melissa Cusano: I love to escape reality with reading, writing, movies, and music! If I'm not working I love to go to concerts (pre-covid), play video games, and hang out with my dog Ozzi.
