The animated My Little Pony movie geared toward family audiences, once set to be distributed by Paramount Pictures for a scheduled release date on Sept. 24, has been sold to Netflix. The feature film is directed by Rob Cullen and Jose Ucha with Mark Fattibene. The specific release date is still unknown but is expected to premiere on Netflix later this year. The plot of the film or cast members is also unknown.
The last My Little Pony movie was released in 2017, and it received $21.9 million in the domestic box office with $60.3 million in the worldwide box office. Emily Blunt, Kristin Chenoweth, Liev Schreiber, Uzo Aduba, and Zoe Saldana star in that particular movie.
Hasbro’s My Little Pony toy franchise first launched in 1981, and the brand generating more than $1 billion annually in retail sales by 2014. It has also been subjected to several direct-to-TV films and television series. The brand was mainly looked to younger girls as audiences and consumers. Over the years has modernized and has introduced new generations of ponies.
The brand also has a huge cult following in adult male fans calling themselves “Bronies.”
The streamer has recently acquired the animated Lord and Miller film The Mitchells vs. The Machines and Wish Dragon.
