Movie Theaters Shutdown in the UK

As the number of COVID-19 cases rises, countries around the world are taking extra precautions in order to keep people safe. Last month it was announced that Italy was closing all its movie theaters along with other entertainment facilities.

Now Movie Web has reported that the UK government is about to enter another lockdown. The new lockdown will begin this week on November 5th, and it will mean that all non essential businesses including facilities like movie theaters will be closing as well. A list of the UK’s new national guidelines can be viewed here. It is unknown what the full affects the lockdown will have on the United Kingdom’s movie theater industry, but in the United States AMC is on the verge of running out of money. Movie Web also reported that earlier this year the British movie theater company Cineworld permanently closed all of its theaters located in the UK.

While the lockdown will mean that movie theaters must close, production on movies in the United Kingdom will continue. Oliver Dowden, the Culture Secretary, explained that production and filming of movies and television shows would be able to continue on Twitter. Several movies like the upcoming The Batman movie are being filmed in the United Kingdom.
