‘Moonlight’ Sweeps San Francisco Film Critics Circle

Barry Jenkins’ Moonlight keeps chugging through awards season, garnering six prizes from the San Francisco Film Critics Circle including the top prize. The A24 Films title also collected citations for Jenkins’ direction, supporting actor Mahershala Ali and for James Laxton’s cinematography; the film also tied in the screenplay (along with Manchester by the Sea) and film editing (besides Arrival) categories. San Francisco film critics were also taken with Fences, the actors anyway as Denzel Washington and Viola Davis nabbed prizes for playing a married couple in 1950s Pittsburgh; the film (which opens in limited release on December 16th) is adapted from August Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize winning play.
