‘Monster Mash’ Movie In The Works With Director Matt Stawski

Bobby “Boris” Pickett’s song “Monster Mash” is finally coming to the big screen. The iconic, spooky song became pop sensation in 1962, earning a No. 1 on the Billboard charts right before Halloween, a perfect timing. The song-turned-film will be developed under Universal and directed by Matt Stawski, nominated for Grammy in 2010 for CeeLo Green’s “Fuck You” music video.

Will Widger will pen the script. Stawski will also be executive producing with John Fischer and Marty Bowen via the Temple Hill Entertainment company. Details about casting, production, and plot has not been revealed yet, as the director for the musical has just been selected.

Universal is on a roll in brewing up monster themed movies recently. Besides the Monster Mash musical, Paul Feig’s Dark Army and Elizabeth Banks’ The Invisible Woman are currently in the works at the studio. On February 28, 2020, Universal will also release the sci-fi thriller The Invisible Man, starring Elizabeth Moss.
