Television stars Milo Ventimiglia (Gilmore Girls, Heroes) and Amanda Schull (Suits, 12 Monkeys) have been cast as the two lead actors for Clay Staub’s directorial debut, Devil’s Gate. They’ll be joining Shawn Ashmore (X-Men), Bridget Regan (TV’s Jane the Virgin), and Jonathan Frake (Star Trek: The Next Generation).
Staub co-wrote the script with video game writer Peter Aperlo. Staub’s previous credits include commercial work and acting as second unit director on Dawn of the Dead and 300. Mednick Productions, who dropped the news, will be producing the suspense flick which will begin shooting this month.
The story follows an FBI agent (Schull) investigating the disappearance of a small town rancher’s (Ventimiglia) wife and child. She works with the local law enforcement, including the town’s deputy (Ashmore) and the unwelcoming sheriff (Frake), to solve the mystery.
Since exiting his previously famed television roles, Ventimiglia has had a steady-yet-understated acting career. Besides starring in a few lesser known films, he has had supporting roles in the Adam Sandler comedies That’s My Boy and Grown Ups 2, as well as last year’s Cannes film Grace of Monaco, and Jason Statham’s latest vehicle, Wild Card. Ventimiglia has not strayed too far from television, as he is currently working on both Gotham and The Whispers.
Schull first came onto the scene in the 2000 dance film Center Stage. Since then, she has guest starred on more television shows than you can count, but began to gain larger recognition after her role on the ABC Family series Pretty Little Liars, and more notably as Louis Litt’s lawyering ally on Suits. Her current starring role on 12 Monkeys (SyFy TV’s small screen adaptation of the Bruce Willis film), however, is arguably her biggest role to date, and may be just the ticket to re-introduce the actress back into the world of cinema, starting with Devil’s Gate.
