Michael Keaton May Join ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’

The many faces of Michael Keaton. The Oscar-nominated actor, who in the last couple of years has had quite the comeback thanks to plum roles in back-to-back Oscar-winning Best Pictures Birdman and Spotlight, may be heading back to the comic book movie world. The versatile performer, who famously portrayed the Caped Crusader in Tim Burton’s 1989 game-changer Batman and the 1993 sequel Batman Returns, appears to be in early talks to jump to the Marvel fray, potentially portraying the villain in Sony’s forthcoming reboot Spider-Man: Homecoming. Variety first reported the story.

Keaton’s casting has yet to be confirmed nor is the specific role he may be in talks for. Speculation, however, has arisen that Spider-Man: Homecoming‘s main villain may be Vulture. For now, however, specifics are being kept under wraps. Tom Holland (The Impossible) will headline as the webslinger in director Jon Watts‘ reboot, film that’s already garnered considerable attention considering Sony and Marvel Studios will be jointly working on this project – Holland will premiere his Peter Parker’s in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War. Marisa Tomei and Zendaya are confirmed to join the film as well. The screenplay is credited to Jonathan M. Goldstein and John Francis Daley.

Before Keaton suits up again, he may have another stab at a prestige picture. He will next be seen in The Founder, John Lee Hancock’s upcoming bio of McDonald’s head Ray Kroc. The Weinstein Company is opening the film on August 5th. Keaton is also expected to join the thriller American Assassin.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is due in theaters on July 7, 2017.
