‘Matrix Resurrections’ Clip Shown at The Game Awards

The Game Awards gave the fans of the Matrix franchise a special treat this past Thursday when they held their annual ceremony to honor the best video games of the year: a one-minute-long peek view into the suspenseful train sequence of the upcoming Matrix Resurrections.

The fourth and possibly last installment of The Matrix saga is coming out on December 22nd. A franchise that has kept fans waiting for almost two decades for this final episode. Actors Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss are reprising their roles as Neo and Trinity, respectively, while many other roles will have new faces. Many of these new actors appear in the special trailer that came out on Thursday during The Game Awards. The trailer is rather ‘special’ since it isn’t a conventional, regular trailer in which different action-packed sequences are shoved into a three-minute piece and viewers have to try and figure out the premise of the plot. This trailer or rather sneak-peek shows a one-minute continued sequence in which Neo is guided by a new blue-haired, female character through one of the famous teleportation doors. The door leads them to a moving train, according to the mysterious lady in blue, “The moving portal makes it harder for them to track us.” We can deduce from this statement that the old dynamic of hackers versus matrix agents will be present in the new film. When Neo tells her he doesn’t remember any of this she replies with a witty remark, “We don’t have to run to phone booths either.”

The really juicy part of the trailer is when they cross yet another teleportation portal and meet the younger version of Morpheus played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Images of the first Matrix film (1999) are displayed in an old-fashioned cinema when Morpheus tells Neo, “Nothing comforts anxiety like little nostalgia.” Apparently, crew members of the Nebuchadnezzar had previously tried to contact him but things went awry.

The sneak peek abruptly ends with that last phrase by the enigmatic Morpheus. Even though very short, this one-minute clip gives major insight into the plot of the movie. We now know there will be hackers versus agents, recurring themes, and that Neo has forgotten his identity. Morpheus and his crew are once again saving Neo just like in the first film, but this time they need him to remember who he truly is. Fans anxiously awaiting the return of one of the most successful sci-fi franchises ever will be able to piece together the puzzle when The Matrix Resurrections releases on December 22nd.
