Marvel’s ‘What If…?’ Composer Laura Karpman to Score ‘The Marvels’

According to Variety, Laura Karpman has been tapped to score The Marvels, the anticipated sequel to 2019’s Captain Marvel. Karpman is a five time Emmy winner and scored the recent Marvel animated series “What If…?” as well as HBO’s Lovecraft Country. Karpman is also the founder of the Alliance of Women Film Composers and pushes for inclusion in the industry.

The film follows Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel along with Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau, both characters introduced in the 2019 film. While Larson has been in MCU films like Avengers: Endgame (with a cameo appearance in Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), this is Parris’ first MCU film outing. Monica Rambeau was portrayed by Akira and Azari Akbar at ages 11 and 5 in the first Captain Marvel film and an older Rambeau, portrayed by Parris, was introduced in the Disney+ series WandaVision in 2021.

Nia DaCosta will join the team to direct along with Iman Vellani. Vellani will also star alongside Larson and Parris in the film as Kamala Khan, a new character to the MCU and superfan of Captain Marvel who might have some superpowers of her own.

This cast and crew of women is sure to bring a fresh perspective to the Marvel Cinematic Universe when the film premieres in theaters on February 13, 2023.
