It’s never too early to plan ahead, and that’s especially true in the movie industry. With that in mind, Dimension Films planned ahead and slated The Six Million Dollar Man, starring Mark Wahlberg, for December 22, 2017.
Based on the novel “Cyborg” by Martin Caidin, the project was previously adapted for the 1970’s TV series of the same name. Cyborg follows military officer Steve Austin who becomes a part of a secret government project when an accident leaves him for dead. Damian Szifron will take the reins as writer and director. He previously wrote and directed the critically acclaimed Wild Tales, an Oscar nominee for Best Foreign Film this past year. Add in Mark Wahlberg, and you have a project with potential.
Wahlberg has long specialized in action films, and this project seems to be in his comfort zone. His last true action movie came from the fourth Transformers film, Age of Extinction. Before that he was in 2 Guns, Lone Survivor and Pain and Gain. Most recently, Wahlberg was seen in the box office disappointment, Ted 2.
The films seems to have a good nucleus in place to create a promising concept. While the premise itself does sound a lot like Robocop, with Mark Wahlberg onboard, it should provide more of a box office draw. Filming isn’t scheduled to begin until September 2016.
