Margot Robbie to Star in New ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ Prequel

Margot Robbie stars in ONCE UPON TIME IN HOLLYWOOD

After the 2007 effort Ocean’s 13, director Steven Soderbergh stated that he wanted the franchise to “Go out on top” and made it clear that he would have no involvement with any new endeavors to the franchise. Then, in 2015 Warner Brothers announced the making of an all female lead Ocean’s 8. The film came out to a warm reception, with most articles re-emphasizing the amazing work of the ensemble cast. A star studded cast is a necessity for an Oceans film to work, going back to the 1960 original with Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack, something that was further characterized by the mid-2000’s trilogy of films starring George Clooney. With that tough act to follow, Oceans 8 had more than held its own.

For this reason, The Hollywood Reporter reports that Warner Brothers is now in talks for the next installment to have a female centric cast again as well as having the next Ocean’s installment set sometime in the 1960s in Europe. The time period is a subtle callback to the franchises roots, as well as capitalizing on the wave of film’s set in the time period.

Although the film has yet to get an official green light, word around the campfire suggests that Jay Roach and Margot Robbie are set to be the director and lead actress respectively. The pair worked on 2019’s Bombshell, which earned the film a handful of Oscar nods that year. Filming is set to start next year, with Margot Robbie’s press tour for Barbie being the deciding factor for any timelines to be set in motion.
