Mahershala Ali (Moonlight) in a recent interview spoke about Marvel canceling the project, Blade. The two-time Oscar-winning actor believes that the project changed the way his career unfolded. When speaking about saving time for the movie, he replies,
I wasn’t saving. Once it was happening, I was working on it. I was doing what I needed to do to prepare myself. It just didn’t happen.
The reboot of the franchise Blade was announced back in 2019 at San Diego Comic-Con. Ali points at Kevin Feige to answer why it never came to fruition; he adds,
Kevin, he said it was his biggest failure of his career and I agree.
Ali said he spent years training to a point that he blew out his knee, but the project kept being push backed, he emphasizes,
I literally moved, uprooted my family, moved to Atlanta, we’re there waiting to go, and they just kept pushing back, pushing it back…. it doesn’t happen.
During the interview, Ali brings up Comic-Con and how he had been waiting since. He firmly believes in getting a project done rather than having an announcement for it. He said they had a story already greenlit but no deliverables. Ali states,
I can’t deliver until they deliver.
