Mackenzie Davis Signs On to ‘Blade Runner’ Sequel

Mackenzie Davis, most recently seen as NASA analyst in The Martian, is the latest casting addition for the upcoming Blade Runner sequel, according to The Hollywood Reporter. She will be joining Ryan Gosling (Drive) and returning star of the original, Harrison Ford as well as Robin Wright (Netflix’s House of Cards) and Ana de Armas (Knock Knock).

Denis Villenueve (Sicario) is directing the sci-fi pic based on the screenplay by returning scribe Hampton Fancher and prolific television writer Michael Green (Heroes, SmallvilleAmerican Gods). The idea for the new film came from Fancher and Ridley Scott (writer-director of the original) based within the world first created by famed sci-fi novelist Philip K. Dick in Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

Very little is known in the way of the sequel’s plot, however, we do know that the story will take place several decades after the original, following Gosling’s new character and will also feature the continued saga of Ford’s replicant hunter Rick Deckard. Although we know that this will be a sequel and not a remake, it is interesting to note that Davis bares a resemblance to Daryl Hannah who starred as the replicant Pris in the 1982 film.

Davis is a star on the series Halt and Catch Fire about the origins of the computer revolution. She is also known for That Awkward Moment and her indie breakout in Smashed. She recently appeared at the Tribeca Film Festival for her film Always Shine and will soon be seen in the indie comedy Izzy Gets the F*ck Across Town.

The currently untitled Blade Runner sequel is due in theaters on October 6, 2017. We will have more on the project as it is revealed.
