Live Action ‘The Little Mermaid’ Considering Harry Styles as Prince Eric

Disney is working on casting another role for their upcoming live action remake of The Little Mermaid. It has just been announced that musician Harry Styles is being considered for the role of Ariel’s love interest, Prince Eric. Styles was famous for being member of the boy band One Direction, but he has recently started to get work as an actor. His most notable non-music related role was in Christopher Nolan‘s Dunkirk.

Styles will be acting along side Halle Bailey, who will be playing Ariel the titular little mermaid, and possibly Melissa McCarthy, who is in the running for Ursula, the villainess witch of the sea. Other known cast members include actress Awkwafina and child actor Jacob Tremblay. Awkwafina will be voicing a female version of the seagull Scuttle, and Tremblay is going to provide the voice for Flounder, Ariel’s fish friend. As of right now it is unknown who will be voicing Sebastian the crab or playing Ariel’s father King Triton.

It’s interesting that Disney would consider casting a famous singer like Styles as Prince Eric, because Eric is unique for being the only Disney Prince who does not actually sing in the movie he initially appeared in. Perhaps this means that Disney is planning to create a new song for Eric.
