Lionsgate has distributed a total of 16 character posters to websites Collider, ComingSoon, IGN, and JoBlo showing off the cast of The Expendables 3. Previous Expendables films have united some of the biggest action stars of the present and recent past including Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Bruce Willis, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. While the third film will feature some new faces, Bruce Willis will not reprise his role.
The Expendables 3 will add, among others, Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson, and Ronda Rousey to the cast. The third film will have Stallone recruit some younger, more tech-savvy members to his crew in order to take on an old foe. Mel Gibson will appear as the villain, an arms dealer who originally founded the Expendables team along with Stallone but since went rogue.
The Expendables 3 was directed by Patrick Hughes and written by Stallone, Creighton Rothenberger, and Katrin Benedikt. Stallone is the only writer or director who has remained with the series since the beginning, but the shakeup in creative team did not affect the series’ popularity as Expendables 2‘s worldwide gross surpassed the first film. The Expendables 3 will reach theaters on August 15.
