Leonardo DiCaprio has officially signed on for his next role as a fur trapper in Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s The Revenant, The Guardian reports. Inarritu is best known for directing the Oscar nominated film, Babel (2006).
Based on the novel by Michael Punke, The Revenant is a survival story of an 1820s frontiersman, Hugh Glass, who was attacked by a grizzly bear. Against all odds, he survives but is ultimately betrayed by his cohorts, who rob him and abandon him to die.
As DiCaprio is known as an extremely selective actor, the writers Inarritu and Mark L. Smith have hopefully crafted a captivating story. DiCaprio seems well suited for almost any role he choses, proven from his fifth Oscar nomination for his performance in Wolf of Wall Street (2013). Additionally, his talent has been increasingly recognized for his roles in Blood Diamond (2006), The Departed (2006), Catch Me If You Can (2002), Titanic (1997), The Basketball Diaries (1995), and What’s Eating Gilbert Grape (1993).
The Revenant was released by 20th Century Fox, and they are aiming to start production this fall. With DiCaprio on board, the 19th Century film looks to be an inspiring tale.
