Mean Business on North Ganson Street, that is. Deadline is reporting that the two Django Unchained stars will share the big screen again for the adaptation of S. Craig Zahler’s upcoming crime novel. The book is in galleys and is in the process of being shopped to publishers.
How does a writer get Warner Bros. and two of the biggest stars in Hollywood to sign onto his script even before the book is published? If you’re S. Craig Zahler, you play in a heavy metal band, do some catering, work as a cinematographer, and have your debut western novel, A Congregation of Jackals, nominated for both a Peacemaker and a Spur Award. Then you have your western screenplay The Brigands of Rattleborge top the Black List and garner a three picture deal with Warner Bros.
Mean Business on North Ganson Street focuses on a disgraced detective (DiCaprio), who gets shipped off to a hellhole known as Victory, Missouri, a town where violent crime is skyrocketing. He teams up with an equally tarnished officer, one who has been demoted for brutalizing a suspect (Foxx). The duo attempt to figure out why so many Victory cops are ending up dead via execution-style murders.
It could be some time before Mean Business on North Ganson Street hits theaters. Foxx is set to start shooting Annie, with Quvenzhane Wallis (Beasts of the Southern Wild) and Cameron Diaz (Bad Teacher, There’s Something About Mary), which is scheduled to bow into theaters December 25, 2014. DiCaprio, meanwhile, is scheduled to begin his new film Rasputin after taking a short break for some rest and relaxation.
Mean Business on North Ganson Street has yet to hire a director, but Leonardo DiCaprio and his Appian Way partner Jennifer Dansson Killoran will be producing, while Sarah Schecter will steer the project for Warner Bros.
Jamie Foxx is currently in theaters with Channing Tatum, in White House Down. Leonardo DiCaprio will next be seen in Martin Scorsese’s Wolf Of Wall Street, opening November 15, 2013.
