Legendary Pictures Announces Plans For New ‘Buck Rogers’ Movie

Legendary Pictures has announced their plans to reboot the 1920’s Buck Rogers sci-fi franchise. According to Movie Web the studio is currently actively working on getting the rights for Buck Rogers in order to make a live action movie. Don Murphy and Susan Montford from Angry Films will be producing the movie. As of right now the project is not very far along, but should the film succeed Legendary Pictures could be planning on turning Buck Rogers into a major franchise including a possible TV series.

The character of Buck Rogers has been around since 1928 when he debuted in the novella Armageddon 2419 A.D. Over the past 92 years Buck Rogers appeared in numerous forms of media over the past 92 years including movie serials, radio dramas, pinball machines, video games, comics, and TV series.

Buck Roger might be an iconic name in classic science fiction, but very few modern audiences know much about him. Anthony ‘Buck’ Rogers is a coal miner who inspects a cave in the year 1927, but when a cave in occurs Rogers is trapped in some sort of radioactive gas that puts him in a state of suspended animation for 492 years. Rogers then awakens in the year 2419, and he discovers that the world has greatly changed.
