‘Legally Blonde 3’ Official Release Date Pushed to May 2022

MGM has confirmed, via twitter, that the much anticipated Legally Blonde 3 now has now been pushed to May 2022. The Reese Witherspoon led franchise has seen large influx in interest throughout the years. The beginning of the series came from a 2001 novel by Amanda Brown, with copyright credit to  Brigid Kerrigan, entitled Legally Blonde. The story follows Elle Woods, after a recent dumping, gathering her resources to win her ex back. The novel was based on Brown’s own experience at Stanford Law.

Quickly, an adaptation was created using Brown’s novel. The film was successful enough to garner a sequel in 2003, and Elle Woods found a home in early 2000’s popular culture. Following a less than stellar sequel, a series of fiction novels centered around Elle Woods at different points in her life were written by a few different authors. In 2007, a musical adaptation was created, which reinvigorated mainstream interest in the series.

Now over two decades since its inception, Legally Blonde 3 is set to release with Oscar award winning actor, Reese Witherspoon, reprising her most iconic role. Veteran comedy writers, Mindy Kaling and Dan Goor, have written script for the sequel, while Jamie Suk will direct.

A few members of the original cast are set to return. Recently, much of the original cast came together for a virtual 19th anniversary reunion live stream, which can be seen here

No start date is set, though sometime in 2021 is a good bet.
