Ladj Ly’s New Film, ‘Les Indésirables,’ Will Premiere At The Toronto Film Festival

Ladj Ly, a French director who had won multiple awards for his first feature Les Misérables, is set to have his new feature Les Indésirables at the Toronto Film Festival. According to Deadline, the screening will take place from September 7th-17th for the film’s world premiere. 

The source goes on to say that this film is “the first international world premiere title to be unveiled by TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) ahead of fuller lineup details in the coming weeks.”

Ly’s first fiction feature, Les Misérables, had won the Cannes Jury Prize in 2019, and it had made its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival a few months later, according to Deadline

In terms of Les Indésirables, the film festival has expressed their thoughts on the new film in a statement. Cameron Bailey, the TIFF CEO, stated, “We are honored to showcase Ladj Ly’s remarkable talent once again with the world premiere of his latest work… This deeply personal film beautifully captures the struggles and aspirations of a community, reflecting Ly’s unparalleled storytelling skills.” 

According to Deadline, TIFF had described the upcoming film as “ a timely tale of revolution, which beautifully captures a pivotal moment in history.”

The film will be screened in September 2023 for its world premiere.
