According to a Deadline exclusive, New Line Cinema has scooped up the rights to remake the Korean action-thriller, The Man from Nowhere. The original 2010 crime/revenge flick starred Won Bin (Mother) as the titular “Man from Nowhere,” a former black-ops soldier attempting to live in anonymity as a pawnshop owner. When a young girl who frequently visits his shop is kidnapped by organ traffickers, the man sets out on a blood-soaked mission to bring her back, leaving trail of destruction and corpses in his wake.
There’s been no word yet on who will write, direct, or star in the remake, but it’s not hard to imagine an up and coming action director – such as Chad Stahelski (John Wick), or Ilya Naishuller (Hardcore Henry) – taking the reigns. If nothing else, the film’s uncomplicated premise should spare it the fate of the last high-profile American remake of a popular Korean film; i.e. Spike Lee’s Old Boy.
Fans of hard-hitting action-thrillers like The Equilizer and Taken, look out for further coverage of the Man from Nowhere remake.
