‘Kingsman’ Director Matthew Vaughn in Talks to Helm ‘Flash Gordon’

Fresh off the success of February’s Kingsman: The Secret Service, director Matthew Vaughn is being courted by Fox to direct its much-anticipated adaptation of the 1930s comic strip Flash Gordon, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Fox picked up the rights to the property last year. Created by noted comic artist Alex Raymond, the tales of the space adventurer have spawned movie serials, TV shows, and a cult-classic 1980 film with a soundtrack by legendary rock group Queen.

Vaughn has solid action credits, what with Kingsman, Kick-Ass, and X-Men: First Class on his resume. He’s currently producing Fantastic Four for Fox. J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, screenwriters on the still-untitled Star Trek 3, are penning the script, based on a treatment by George Nolfi (The Adjustment Bureau).
