‘King Richard’ Film Lands Director Reinaldo Marcus Green

Monsters and Men director Reinaldo Marcus Green is currently set to direct the upcoming film King Richard, according to Variety. Starring Will Smith as Richard Williams, the father of tennis pros Serena and Venus Williams, the film will focus on Williams’s strong desires to turn his daughters into the best tennis players. He coached them on his own beginning when they were four years old.

The film is based on a script written by Zach Baylin. Producers for King Richard include Trevor White and Tim White. John Lassiter will be producing through Overbrook Entertainment, which was founded by him and Smith. Warner Bros. acquired the movie after a difficult battle. The movie became a popular choice among distributors after Smith was announced as part of the cast.

Green’s Monsters and Men made its debut at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival and was awarded a jury prize. Green has also been involved in shorter film projects such as directing three episodes for Netflix’s “Top Boy.” In addition, he oversaw principle photography for the upcoming American drama film Good Joe Bell, which starred Mark Wahlberg, Sasha Banks, and Connie Britton.

Warner Bros. plans to release King Richard on November 25, 2020 in time for the Thanksgiving season.
