It seems like lately the movie industry has been satured with new reboots and remakes of different franchises and series. And it looks like director/actor/pop culture guru Kevin Smith is getting in on the reboot mania as well (in a hilariously self aware way), because he has announced a new movie simply titled Jay and Silent Bob Reboot.
Smith’s film career started with the hit indie movie Clerks, which was about a day in the life of two New Jersey store clerks named Dante and Randal who interact with crazy characters including two dimwitted drug dealers named Jay and Silent Bob. Smith continued to make movies set in the same universe as Clerks including Chasing Amy, which starred Ben Affleck. In that movie Affleck’s character created a comic series based on Jay and Silent Bob called Bluntman and Chronic. Then Smith made 2001’s Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, a wacky road trip comedy about the titular duo traveling to Hollywood in order stop production on a movie that was being made on the Bluntman and Chronic comics. This time around in the aptly named Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, they are stopping a reboot of that Bluntman and Chronic movie from being made.
This new movie will be written and directed by Kevin Smith, who will also be reprising his role as Silent Bob. Also returning to the franchise are Jason Mewes, who plays Jay, and Ben Affleck who played the comic book creator Holden McNeil. According to Screen Rant the rest of the cast includes several stars such as Chris Hemsworth, Rosario Dawson, Joe Manganiello, Grant Gustin, Jason Lee, Justin Long, Kate Micucci, Harley Quinn Smith (Kevin Smith’s daughter), James Van Der Beek, Fred Armisen, and many more.
A red band trailer packed full of obscenity and ridiculous antics can be seen below and more info is sure to come as the stars will be appearing at San Diego Comic Con‘s Hall H tomorrow night. The film will be getting a limited release on October 15, 2019.
