According to Deadline, SNL standout Kate McKinnon and “Bad Mom” Mila Kunis are in talks to join Lionsgate’s forthcoming comedy The Spy Who Dumped Me. Susanna Fogel (Life Partners) will direct the project based on an original script she penned with David Iserson. The high-concept comedy is looking to head into production this summer. Brian Grazer is looking to serve as producer.
In The Spy Who Dumped Me, McKinnon and Kunis would portray friends who somehow play a part in international espionage upon learning that one of their former beaus is in reality a spy. Lionsgate hasn’t officially commented on the casting on the project nor has casting for the titular “dumper” being made.
Based on first impressions, the film seems within the wheelhouses of both McKinnon and Kunis, as both are comedy vets at this point. McKinnon is coming off a particularly strong year where she won an Emmy for Saturday Night Live, received stellar reviews for her part in Sony’s reboot of Ghostbusters and most recently appeared on screen in Office Christmas Party. Coming off, she will co-star alongside Scarlett Johansson in the raunchy comedy Rough Night and headline The Lunch Witch; she also appeared in Fogel’s Life Partners. Kunis is coming off the sleeper hit comedy Bad Moms and is readying the film’s sequel, Bad Mom’s Christmas.
