News broke via Deadline on Wednesday that Legendary’s upcoming reboot of Toxic Avenger has added Julia Davis (Love Actually) and Elijah Wood (No Man of God) to join already announced stars Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) and Jacob Tremblay (Wonder).
Taylour Paige (Zola) and Kevin Bacon (Footloose) have also been announced to join the film with Macon Blair (I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore) in the directing chair.
The Toxic Avenger is a modern reimagining of Troma Entertainment’s popular low-budget action-comedy hit that came out in 1984. The film is rooted in environmental themes and redefines the superhero genre. The story follows a poor everyman who is pushed into a vat of radioactive waste; he is turned into a mutated freak who must convert from shunned outcast to underdog hero in order to rescue his son, friends, and society from the powers of corruption and greed.
Wood’s next film is the crime drama L.A. Rush, about a father who enters the realm of video games in order to free his teenage daughter from the clutches of a mystery game creator.
Davis is set to star in the TV series The Offenders as Rita for BBC Studios, about seven strangers from all walks of life that were compelled to work together in Bristol to serve a community payback sentence.
