With Warner Bros. and DC films currently in minor state of chaos, it can’t hurt to add more fuel to this glorious cinematic fire. Right on cue, Jon Hamm throws his hat into the ring and offers up interest in playing Batman for DC, though he does mention that the script would need to be of the non-Batman-and-Robin variety. “It depends on the script, what the story is,” Hamm told Graham Bensinger in an interview for his series In Depth, which you can view below. “I am huge comic book fan, always have been. I’ve read comic books since I was 9 or younger. And I’m pretty knowledgeable about a lot of them. And I like the genre, and I like when they’re done well.” Specifically, he mentions his adoration for Marvel’s Black Panther and FX’s Legion TV series.
Hamm admits that he hasn’t actually spoken to anyone about officially taking up the black cowl and cape. “I have had rumors about that since probably season one of Mad Men,” he said. “I have never had a conversation with anybody about it, literally. And I’ve sat in the room with all these guys. I have never been offered anything. I think the internet wants what it wants. But, I mean, a lot of people have to sign off on that, obviously not just the internet.” He adds, “I’d probably fit the suit. I’d have to work out a lot, which I don’t love. But, I am sure there’s an interesting version of that being out there. And if they wanted to tap me on the shoulder and ask me to do it, why not?”

Meanwhile, Josh Gad chimed in from the Twitterverse to offer up his acting services if Bat-Hamm becomes a reality.
As noted by ScreenRant, this isn’t the first time that Gad has proposed playing the villainous Penguin in the Batman universe. No one knows if Matt Reeves’ inbound film The Batman will feature Penguin at all, nor if Chris McKay’s proposed Nightwing film features the waddling windbag. That hasn’t stopped Gad (or Hamm) from putting his name out there, and with the fluctuating state of DC right now it can’t hurt to throw your name at the wall and hope it sticks. Currently, Ben Affleck‘s portrayal of Batman is in serious doubt, as is Henry Cavill’s return to the role of Superman, and while DC has tons of projects in the mix very few have concrete details nailed down.
While there’s little doubt that Hamm and Gad would make intriguing additions to the DCEU, keep in mind that this all conjecture and speculation at the moment. No one knows for sure what’s happening with Batman or Superman, or if they do they simply aren’t ready to talk about it yet. This doesn’t even take into account the two proposed Joker movies that are supposedly in the works, both of which could feature different takes on Batman (or even the Penguin) depending on the whims of the screenwriters. Whatever happens, we’ll stay on top of all production, casting, and script news as it breaks.
