Mad Men‘s Jon Hamm has signed on to star in the political action thriller High Wire Act. The film will work off of script by Tony Gilroy (the Bourne franchise) and will be directed by Brad Anderson (The Machinist, Transsiberian).
Set in 1980s Beirut, High Wire Act will feature Hamm as a former U.S. diplomat called back into service to save a kidnapped former colleague from a group who may have contributed to the death of his own family.
Despite the demands of his work on Mad Men, which ends its seven season run on AMC on May 17th, Hamm has kept up an active film presence with The Town (2010), Bridesmaids (2011), and Million Dollar Arm (2014), as well as the upcoming Keeping Up With The Joneses. He’s also featured as the voice of Herb Overkill in Universal’s upcoming animated sequel to Despicable Me, Minions.
Gilroy is producing alongside Ted Field and Mike Weber for Radar Pictures. In a statement, Gilroy said:
I’m thrilled the way the project’s come together. Jon Hamm was made to play the part. I’ve been trying to work with Brad Anderson from the moment I saw Transsiberian and every conversation we have confirms my confidence. I can’t wait to see a script that means so much to me get up and running.
