Johnny Depp to Produce Michael Jackson Musical From POV of His Glove

If you thought a project about Michael Jackson couldn’t get any more interesting, Johnny Depp is about to produce an “unauthorized” stage show told from the point of view of Jackson’s famous white and rhinestone-covered glove.

This is the second reported upcoming project about Jackson’s life that’s made headlines in the last week, the first one being a musical film planned by Bohemian Rhapsody producer Graham King. So far on that project, the Jackson estate has given the film the rights to use Jackson’s songs, with John Logan writing the script.

The stage show will be called For the Love of Glove: An Unauthorized Musical Fable About the Life of Michael Jackson, as told by his Glove. Originally the project was going to be a biopic, but since sexual assault allegations have swelled again due to HBO’s documentary Leaving Neverland, it was converted for the stage. It seems King doesn’t mind the heat around these allegations and will be covering that subject in his film.

About the conception of For the Love, writer Julien Nitzberg revealed, “I’m known for writing a lot of biopics. A major TV network wanted me to write a [Jackson] movie … but the question came up [about] how to deal with the child abuse allegations. I said, how’s this? Everything MJ has been accused of has actually been caused by his glove, which is actually an alien from outer space [and] feeds on virgin boy blood. They laughed and said, can you do the normal version?”

There’s no telling why Depp has decided to produce, especially since he’s in a pretty heated court battle with his ex Amber Heard. Hopefully the stage play, set to hit the stage January 25, is as interesting as it sounds.
