John Wick: Chapter 4 is just going to have to wait to be seen until 2023.
Lionsgate has revealed that they will delay the action-packed film starring Keanu Reeves to March 24, 2023, not May 27, 2022.
John Wick fans worldwide are probably in an uproar as they will have to wait almost another full year before the film hits theaters with its new release date.
Before the delay of John Wick: Chapter 4, it was set to compete against Tom Cruise’s highly anticipated sequel Top Gun: Maverick on May 27, but with the delay, that will no longer be a problem. Coincidence? However, with John Wick: Chapter 4 new release date, it will compete against Sony’s untitled biopic about two-time world heavyweight champion George Foreman.
Sources told Deadline, the real reason the fourth sequel was rescheduled was that production on the film had halted and would need to resume filming in Japan. Filming the next chapter of the John Wick franchise has been challenging as it was shot all over the world. Even if Lionsgate wanted to release this film for Memorial Day weekend, they would be unable to do so due to the current state of development.
Chad Stahelski, who helmed the first three John Wick films, will return to direct. Michael Finch and Shay Hatten wrote the script.
Donnie Yen (Mulan), Laurence Fishburne (Black-ish), Bill Skarsgård (It), Ian McShane (American Gods), Clancy Brown (Dexter: New Blood), and more are starring in John Wick: Chapter 4.
Through three films, the franchise has grossed $584.7 million at the global box office.
So, in the meantime, fans of Keanu Reeves are just going to have to get their kicks somewhere else, say The Matrix Resurrections that just came out?
