John Turturro made a superhero splash as the Cannes Film Festival winning actor, director, and multiple Golden Globe nominee is officially onboard Matt Reeves’ The Batman. He’s currently set to portray mafia chieftain Carimine Falcone, according to Deadline.
Reeves aired the big news to Twitter yesterday afternoon about Turturro’s signing. Falcone, also known by his alias The Roman, serves as an antagonist to Batman in Bob Kane’s series as the overlord of organized crime in Gotham City. Tom Wilkinson previously portrayed Falcone on the big screen in Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins.
Turturro joins an already stacked cast and as the fourth villain in The Batman, ranking alongside Zoe Kravitz’s Catwoman, Paul Dano’s Riddler, and Colin Farrell’s Penguin. He will star opposite of Robert Pattinson as Batman, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth.
Production is expected to commence in December or as early as January 2020 for its eyed June 25, 2021 release date. Turturro’s next project is one of passion as he has completed a spinoff to The Big Lewbowski surrounding his character from the film entitled The Jesus Rolls, which he also directed. Turturro will also play a role in the upcoming HBO limited series The Plot Against America.
