John Cho Cast as Spike Spiegel in Netflix’s Live-Action Adaptation of ‘Cowboy Bebop’

Since Cowboy Bebop is considered a cult classic in America, many fans were worried about how the adaptation would be handled. For a while, there were talks about casting Keanu Reeves as the main character, Spike Spiegel, which made many fans very uneasy about possible whitewashing.

While a live-action Cowboy Bebop movie is no longer in the works, Netflix is currently working on launching a live-action series based on the anime, and they’ve just announced some of their cast members. John Cho has been cast as the lead role of Spike Spiegel, who was voiced by Steven Blum in the English dub of the anime.

Other cast members include Mustafa Shakir playing Jet Black, who was voiced by Beau Billingslea, and Daniella Pineda will be playing Fay Valentine, originally voiced by Wendee Lee. Alex Hassell has also been cast in an unspecified role. It is still unknown who will be playing the fourth main character, Ed.

America has never had a great track record when it comes to adapting anime into live action but hopefully, the upcoming Netflix series will treat this anime with the respect it deserves.
