According to Variety, Joel Edgerton will join Timothée Chalamet in Netflix’s upcoming King Henry V drama. Edgerton was already co-writer on the script, sharing credits with director David Michod, and now will star alongside a budding star in Chalamet.
Chalamet was announced earlier this year to star as the monarch in his early years, who is adding on to formidable streak thus far, coming off his Oscar-nominated performance in Luca Guadagnino’s Call Me by Your Name as well as sharing the screen with Saoirse Ronan in Greta Gerwig’s Lady Bird.
Aside from the fact that Edgerton and Michod penned the script together, the move to add the It Comes at Night star in front of the screen makes sense due to the duo previously working together on Animal Kingdom (2010) and The Rover (2014). The chemistry is clearly there, and the addition can only strengthen the value of the final product.
Edgerton would also be furthering a successful run of work after starring in Netflix’s Bright alongside Will Smith, which has already been picked up for sequel, as well as the recently released Gringo and Red Sparrow alongside Charlize Theron and Jennifer Lawrence, respectively. He can be seen next in Boy Erased later this year, a film he also directed that’s expected to make a strong run in the upcoming festival circuit.
The King is adapted from Shakespeare’s plays Henry IV and Henry V and is being produced by Plan B Entertainment.
