Benedict Cumberbatch will have major starring company for his next upcoming film Prisoner 760. 30WEST-Topic Studios recently announced that Jodie Foster, Shailene Woodley and Tahar Rahim will be joining the cast of Cumberbatch’s film, according to Deadline.
STX International has locked the global rights to Prisoner 760 and will be distributing it in the U.K. and Ireland. The film will be directed by Oscar/BAFTA winning-director Kevin Macdonald and takes viewers through the journey of Mohamedou Ould Slahi, a man who is apprehended by the U.S. government under suspicion of being al-Qaida and forcefully held in prison without any kind of legal proceeding. Desperate, Slahi lands a defense lawyer named Nancy Hollander and her legal assistant Teri Duncan and, through many challenges, pursue justice for his release. The team’s greatest threat is a cunning military prosecutor named Lt. Stuart Couch, played by Cumberbatch, who quickly unveils a conspiracy beyond words.
The film is based on Slahi’s best-selling memoir Guantanamo Diary, which saw publication in the New York Times. The studio is eyeing production to begin in South Africa on December 2nd. Macdonald will be directing from Michael Bronner of 60 Minutes, who compiled research for Paul Greengrass’s work on United 93, Green Zone, and Captain Phillips. Cumberbatch will be producing alongside Adam Ackland and Leah Clarke under the SunnyMarch banner.
