Jessica Chastain Stars In New Horror Film ‘Other Mommy’

The trailer for Rob Savage’s (Host) new movie Other Mommy was released, showing what to expect from Jessica Chastain as the mother in the film. The trailer opens up with Chastain returning home to have a lunch break with her daughter Bela, who is played by Arabella Olivia Clark (The Hand That Rocks The Cradle). She begins to ask her what she wants to eat and things take a different turn. The food she starts cooking for Bela begins to burn and Bela’s father appears, who is played by Jay Duplass (Dying For Sex). He questions what’s going on, not realizing that Bela is not alone, then finds Chastain contorted under the kitchen counter.

It later shows that Chastain will not only be playing the entity disguised as Bela’s mother but also Bela’s normal mother. Bela is shown struggling to tell the difference between the mothers and doesn’t know which one is real. Then a cut of the title is shown and the date for release, which is in October.

In an interview with James Wan (Insidious) and Rob Savage, they both discuss the trailer and what it was like to work with Chastain,

The great thing about Jessica is she is an absolute horror fan, and she completely understands the assignment. She knows exactly what you’re doing. You can go up to her and say, ‘Well, we need the audience to feel this. We want them to think that you’re the mother character, but just give us like 5% distrust. Give us 5% other mommy so the audience will lean forward.’ She’s like, ‘Okay, watch this,’ and you’ll be looking at the monitor and she’s got it.” She’s able to just achieve that technicality that horror needs, whilst at the same time giving this really raw, emotional performance, both as other mommy and as Ursula, the mother character. It’s an incredibly emotional movie, as well as a terrifying one. Being able to switch between those two modes so seamlessly was when we knew the movie was going to work.
