While getting ready to debut his new film Unfrosted on Netflix, Jerry Seinfeld also spoke about how the film industry today is over due to people who work in it feeling confused. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Seinfeld in a GQ interview brought up the point by saying that the modern film industry is no longer the societal phenomenon it used to be, from saying quotes to referencing them in everyday conversations when a film first comes out.
“When a movie came out, if it was good, we all went to see it,” Seinfeld mused. “Now we’re walking through a fire hose of water, just trying to see.” To the comedian, industry moguls struggle to keep up with the changing times and recognize that film “doesn’t occupy the pinnacle in the social, cultural hierarchy that it did for most of our lives.”
Even with this thought process, Seinfeld is continuing to work in the film industry and is about to make his directorial debut with Unfrosted and will also be starring in it. The film takes on a comedic rivalry between two real-life cereal brands Kellogg’s and Post. It takes place in 1963 when the two brands face off against each other to see who can create the best breakfast pastry to “change the face of breakfast forever.”
The film’s cast is star-studded full of comedians and actors, including Melissa McCarthy, Jim Gaffigan, Amy Schumer, Hugh Grant, Bill Burr, Cedric The Entertainer, Patrick Warburton, Jack McBrayer, James Marsden, Peter Dinklage, and so many others.
Unfrosted hits shelves May 3.
