Jeremy Renner and Hannibal Buress May Join Cast of ‘Tag’

According to Variety, twice-Oscar nominated actor Jeremy Renner (Captain America: Civil War) and Hannibal Buress (The Secret Life of Pets) may join Ed Helms (Vacation) in the cast of Tag. Jeff Tomsic makes his feature film direction debut, helming from a script by Mark Steilen and Rob McKittrick. The New Line comedy, based on a true story which was featured in the Wall Street Journal, focuses on a group of former classmates who organize a very elaborate game of tag, which they have been doing annually for the last 30 years. Renner and Buress would be part of the circle of friends. Producers are Steilen, Todd Garner, and Sean Robins.

For Renner, taking on this comedic role would be quite a switch. Renner has established himself in the action-drama-hero niche, including his breakout starring role in The Hurt Locker which garnered him his first Oscar nom, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, The Bourne Legacy, Hansel and Gretel, and his recurring role as Hawkeye in Marvel’s Avengers series. Most recently, he starred in the Oscar-nominated film Arrival opposite five-time Oscar nominated actress Amy Adams (Big Eyes). August 4th will see the theatrical release of his latest film, the crime thriller Wind River. The busy actor is currently shooting Avengers: Infinity War.

Buress was in last year’s Russsell Crowe-Ryan Gosling starrer The Nice Guys. His upcoming films include Baywatch and Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Tag is currently in pre-production.
