In an Instagram post Monday afternoon, Jeff Bridges announced that he has been diagnosed with Lymphoma. “As the Dude would say… New S**T has come to light,” Bridges posted, referencing his iconic character from the 1998 Coen Brothers comedy, The Big Lebowski. “I have been diagnosed with Lymphoma. Although it is a serious disease, I feel fortunate that I have a great team of doctors and the prognosis is good.”
“I’m starting treatment and will keep you posted on my recovery,” he posted. “I’m profoundly grateful for the love and support from my family and friends. Thank you for your prayers and well wishes.”
The 70-year-old actor finished his post by urging his followers to make their voices hear this election season. “And, while I have you, please remember to go vote. Because we are all in this together. Vote.org Love, Jeff.”
Lymphoma is a specific form of cancer that attacks the lymph system, or “tissues and organs that produce, store, and carry white blood cells that fight infections,” according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Bridges was last seen on the big screen in the 2018 crime mystery Bad Times at the El Royale. The Cecil B. DeMille Award winner has appeared in over 70 films during the course of his six decade career.
