Jake Johnson To Star In New Sports Comedy ‘The Dink’

Jake Johnson (New Girl) is starring in the AppleTV original movie The Dink. He plays Dusty Boyd, tennis player who must get used to playing pickleball after sustaining an injury in his hand. The film’s trailer begins with a monologue by Ed Harris’ (The Truman Show) character, Chuck Boyd, describing pickleball as an epidemic and how they need to protect the sport of tennis.

The trailer cuts to a montage into Dusty Boyd’s character, an arrogant tennis player who likes to belittle pickleball players. After failing to jump the tennis net, he injures his hand and visits his doctor, played by Ben Stiller (Meet The Parents) who is also producing the film. Boyd is then prescribed to play pickleball instead.

What follows is a glimpse of what his journey is going to be like as he learns to play the new sport, with the help of Mary Steenburgen’s (Step-Brothers) character Candace. The trailer also shows who else is to be in the movie: Patton Oswalt (Ratatouille), Chloe Fineman (SNL), and former tennis player Andy Roddick, amongst many other actors.  The Dink is written by Sean Clements (Workaholics)and directed by Josh Greenbaum (Strays). The film is set to stream on AppleTV on July 24th.
