Italian Film Actress Giorgia Moll Dead At 88

Italian Film Actress Giorgia Moll, know for her roles in it The Quiet American (1958) and Contempt, has passed away at the age of 88.  According to The Hollywood Reporter, Moll’s death occurred on the 2nd of this month.

Moll’s last role on screen was in an Italian television movie titled, I Due Prigionieri, which translates to The Two Prisoners, in 1985. Before that, she starred in many films and also had a career in music. She played Phuong in The Quiet American (1958), a Vietnamese woman who was the love interest of Audie Murphy’s (To Hell And Back) character Alden Pyle. The movie was the first to be filmed in Vietnam and was an adaptation of Graham Greene’s novel of the same name.

Another role Moll is known for is Francesca in the film Contempt (1963). Contempt (1963) is a French New Wave film directed by Jean Luc Godard, that stars Jack Palance as Jeremy Prokosch, a movie producer who is trying to get a script rewritten for a movie adaptation of The Odyssey. In the movie Moll plays Palance’s secretary. Amongst her film and television career Moll also recorded singles such as: Ballata per un amore perduto (Ballade a Sylvie) / Nato in settembre(Ballad for a Lost Love (Ballade à Sylvie) / Born in September) and Mentre mi metto il rossetto / Io chiudo gli occhi(As I put on my lipstick / I close my eyes).
