TV actress Jaime King from Hart of Dixie has begun making her way into film with her Sundance debut in Bitch. Her film appearances prior to that include Sin City: A Dame to Kill For and Barely Lethal. She is now set to star in How to Cook Your Daughter, film based on a memoir by Jessica Hendra and Blake Morrison, according to Deadline.
The book is based on Hendra’s personal experiences with her father Tony Hendra, editor of National Lampoon, and an incredibly abusive parent both verbally and sexually. Despite the dark past that the story is based on, it finds hope as Hendra grows into a woman with the courage to stand up for her rights, and for the rights of all survivors of abuse, and to be taken seriously in their claims and their struggles.
Hendra’s book was written in response to her father’s own novel Father Joe: The Man Who Saved My Soul, a tribute to a Benedictine monk who he claims to have saved him from a life of drugs, sex, and dysfunctional family ties. After the publishing of How to Cook Your Daughter, he denied all of his daughter’s accusations and has never faced any formal charges for the crimes described in the novel, according to The Daily Mail.
Jennifer Clary, director of The Silent Thief and The Potters is set to direct the film, with production set to start in November.
