IFC Films Acquires North American Rights to Mystery Thriller Based on Ubisoft VR Game ‘Werewolves Within’

The North American rights to Werewolves Within, a new mystery thriller based on the Ubisoft VR title of the same name, have been acquired by IFC Films, Ubisoft announced. The original VR game is heavily inspired by party games like Werewolf and Mafia.

The film is directed by Josh Ruben and written by bestselling author Mishna Wolff. The story centers around a small group of residents trapped together inside of a local inn, and it’s up to a newly arrived forest ranger and postal worker to keep everyone safe and discover the truth behind the mysterious creature that’s terrorizing the community.

“The wonderful folks at IFC made it clear that they’re fans of our film first,” Ruben said. “Which is great, because, surprise, we’re fans of IFC. They’re behind some of the most formative, groundbreaking films I’ve ever seen, so… I’m dreaming. This is a dream, right?”

Sam Richardson plays the forest ranger Finn and Milana Vayntrub stars as Cecily the postal worker. The film also stars George Basil, Sarah Burns, Michael Chernus, Catherine Curtin, Wayne Duvall, Harvey Guillén, Rebecca Henderson, Cheyenne Jackson, Michaela Watkins and Glenn Fleshler. Jason Altman, Margaret Boykin and Andrew Lieberman are producing for Ubisoft Film & Television alongside Matt Miller, Natalie Metzger and Benjamin Wiessner for Vanishing Angle. Richardson is also producing.

“We found a perfect home for our first independently produced feature with IFC,” said Altman, “Their enthusiasm, taste, and strategy in a complicated marketplace continues to impress us, and we can’t wait to bring this film to fans of the game and larger audiences alike.”

IFC Films President Adrianna Bocco added: “Werewolves Within is a wild and hilarious film adaptation of Ubisoft’s genius original game concept and we are so thrilled to bring this entertaining whodunnit to audiences this summer. Josh Ruben who arrived with Scare Me, has assembled an incredible cast to bring his newest vision to light, and we’re sure it will leave audiences clutching their popcorn and howling from laughter.”
