Idris Elba is Done Filming ‘The Dark Tower’

Adaptations of Stephen King’s works never ceases in Hollywood. Next year will see two exciting King projects come to the big screen–the newest take on the acclaimed novel It, and his fantasy-western story known as The Dark Tower. The latter is the first installment in a long, beloved series by King, taking place in an apocalyptic world, following a few mysterious gunslingers and explorers. Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club) stars as The Man in Black, while Idris Elba (Prometheus) plays the character that’s simply known as The Gunslinger.

The film is hitting theaters in February 2017, which is not too far away now. Therefore, production should be wrapping up soon for it. There will probably be a decent amount of special effects for creating the fantasy world, but production is apparently still going. And according to Elba, he has just finished filming. In a Twitter Q&A for the film, Elba stated that “I’m done filming [The Dark Tower], spoke to the director the other day and he said the edit is coming along really well.”

Now, it remains unclear as to how close the rest of the production is to wrapping up. However, with Elba having such major role in the film, it can’t be too far away. The film was shot primarily in South Africa, which helped to create an ideal Wild West setting. The project sounds very promising at this point, so let’s hope this latest adaptation will be popular enough to jumpstart the rest of the series heading to Hollywood.

The Dark Tower opens in U.S. theaters on February 17, 2017.
