Without a doubt, this is the age of re-imaginings and remakes in Hollywood. And while not all hit their mark as others do, one of the few that could prove critics wrong is the upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s It. Set in a small town in Maine, It follows a group of children who come face-to-face with a horrifying creature, simply known as Pennywise the Clown. While the film has had a number of directors come and go due to creative differences, this latest take on the horror story could turn into something incredible.
The novel previously was put onto the silver screen as an ABC miniseries in the 199os. It wasn’t a huge success, although it has since gained quite a cult audience. The series was very over-the-top, but that was also one the things that made it so creepily entertaining. But Warner Bros. looks to be changing the tone a bit with the new adaptation. Bill Skarsgård (Hemlock Grove) will be portraying Pennywise, which is a casting choice that’s success remains to be seen. There recently was the first reveal of Pennywise’s new costume, but courtesy of EW, fans now get the full monty. The costume is frightening to behold, not to mention it being beautifully designed. Take a look at it below.
There’s so much potential for It that it’s hard to contain excitement for what this film could be. With director Andrés Muschietti (Mama) helming the project, it seems like it’s in good hands. And this new unveiling of Pennywise’s costume only reaffirms the talent that’s going into the project. It’s important to make a re-imagining feel fresh, and it looks as though that’s exactly what’s happening.
It opens in theaters on September 8, 2017.
