Hear Meryl Streep’s Politically Charged and Emotional Golden Globes Speech

Sunday evening at the 74th annual Golden Globe Awards, Meryl Streep received the Cecil B. Demille Award for her achievement in film. As icing on the cake to the moving introduction by her Doubt costar Viola Davis, Streep made an incredibly rousing speech with a call to arms for journalists and a shout out to President-elect Donald Trump for the best performance of the year, in her words. She highlighted the indelible importance of empathy and broke down the value of foreigners, the press, and Hollywood – if you can believe it – in a nod to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. The result was bold and affecting.
