Let Them All Talk, film that will be directed by famed mainstream-independent filmmaker Steven Soderbergh, has been picked up by HBO Max and will star Meryl Streep, Candice Bergen, Diane West, Lucas Hedges, and Gemma Chan. According to Deadline, production began last week in New York and will continue to film in the UK and aboard the Queen Mary 2.
The film will be about an author (Streep) and her nephew (Hedges) who go on a trip with the author’s old friends. As the nephew tries to keep the ladies under control and having a good time, he ends up involved with a young literary agent played by Chan.
Soderbergh is well-known for his work in indie cinema starting with his 1989 Palme d’Or-winning film Sex, Lies, and Videotape. He went on to work closely with George Clooney and direct films such as Out of Sight, his Oscar-winning film Erin Brockovich, Traffic, the Ocean’s trilogy, Contagion, and Magic Mike.
Soderbergh’s longtime producing partner Gregory Jacobs is set to produce once again. Ken Meyer and Joseph Mallory are executive producers for the new film.
Besides The Laundromat, which marked the first Soderbergh film that Streep was in, Soderbergh’s most recent directing gigs have included Netflix’s sports drama film High Flying Bird, and psychological horror film Unsane, starring Claire Foy. Soderbergh has also produced/and or directed quirky and innovative projects such as Starz’ now-cancelled Now Apocalypse, created by New Queer Cinema filmmaker Gregg Araki, and the critically-acclaimed Cinemax show The Knick.
One thing’s for sure besides Soderbergh liking to collaborate with people he’s worked with in the past, he also loves taking chances with content and/or production techniques.
